Townsville City Council has awarded the tender to supply pipe for Stage 1 of the Townsville City Council’s Haughton Pipeline Duplication project (HPDP) to Iplex Pipelines.
Currently Iplex have been awarded a preferred status, the final contract is still to be finalised.
Iplex is planing to tool up to manufacture glass reinforced polyester (GRP) pipe fittings as well as reopening their polyethylene (PE) pipe plant in Townsville to supply a pipe described as a durable product to suit the region’s conditions.
Further packages are planning to be released in the coming weeks.
The council’s $225 million three-point water security solution includes:
- The new water pipeline
- A recycled water system for community spaces and industrial use
- The Community Water Transition Support Package
This new pipe will replace the existing 1.2m diameter pipeline to provide a daily limit of 234 mega litres of water into the Ross Dam.
Council has committed to building the pipeline within 26 months, which is due to be complete by December 2019.
