Tick for BHP’s long-term vision for the west

BHP’s long-term environmental plan for its Pilbara operations has been given the all-clear by the West Australian Government, paving the way another 50 to 100 years of mining in the state’s North West.

WA Today is reporting The mining giant’s Pilbara Expansion Strategic Proposal covers the impacts of its future iron ore operations, with the aim of cutting back on approval timeframes.

BHP’s WA Iron Ore Asset president Edgar Basto said the company was proud to be an industry leader as the first miner to develop a long-term environmental assessment.

“This framework enables BHP and the state regulators to focus on effectively planning and managing environmental impacts at a regional level and with a longer-term focus for the benefit of future generations,” he said.
