Shenhua coal licence renewed by NSW Government

The NSW government has renewed the exploration licence for the Watermark Coal project site.

Resources Minister Don Harwin said the government had renewed Shenhua’s licence but hadn’t provided approval to commence mining.

“Before mining can begin, the company must apply for a mining production lease from the NSW government, and gain approval for a range of detailed management plans required in the project’s development consent,” the minister said in a statement.

Mr Harwin on Thursday said the Shenhua’s renewal application had undergone a rigorous assessment and the company’s environmental management plans were consistent with state government requirements.
