Pipeline contract secured for Barossa gas project

Santos’ multibillion-dollar Barossa natural gas project off northern Australia has taken a leap forward with news that senior partner ConocoPhillips has inked a contract for the construction of  a 260-kilometre offshore pipeline to get the gas to Darwin.

The Australian Financial Review is reporting the contract awarded to Allseas Marine Contractors Australia comes ahead of the final go-ahead for the Barossa project, anticipated by Santos for early next year.

Gas from the Barossa field, about 300 kilometres north of Darwin, is earmarked to replace declining supplies for the Conoco-led Darwin LNG (liquefied natural gas) venture, in which Santos also has a stake.
