Mt Isa $30m smelter refurb

Mount Isa Mines is planning to undertake a $30 million re-brick of its copper smelter in mid-March.

The refurbishment will revitalise the smelter by relining critical components including the anode and rotary holding furnaces along with an upgrade of the smelter’ off-gas system.

The month long project will require approximately 400 additional contractors to undertake the works.

The  Queensland Government is providing a $15 million grant to assist the project.
