The Queensland Government has awarded Mackay-based Fergus Builders a contract to build the $7 million Resources Centre of Excellence in the region.
Australian Mining is reporting the centre is designed to drive research and innovation in the mining equipment, technology and services (METS) sector.
The contract, which is worth $3.28 million, includes construction of an administration building, workshop, laboratory, landscaping and utilities.
It sets up the project for the next stage, including fit-out of an underground mining simulator.
The Queensland Government backs the project with its $175 million jobs and regional growth fund. This contract will also will create up to 22 direct and indirect jobs on-site and through the supply chain.
