Galilee Basin gas project fast-tracked with construction of a new pipeline

In the wake of the Queensland Government’s appeal to answer onshore gas demand Jemena’s plans have been given the green light to construct a new pipeline to the Galilee Basin linking the east-coast gas market, in concert with Galilee Energy.

This investment serves to complement the $800 million Northern Gas Pipeline (NGP) set for completion by the close of 2018.

The NGP is expected to supply around 90TJ of additional gas to the east-coast market each day.

McConnell Dowell is currently underway constructing 481 km of a total 622 km of high pressure gas pipeline and associated Main Line Valves and a mid-line Scraper Station facility.

Spiecapag Australia was awarded the construction of the remaining 141 km of pipeline.

This pipeline will run between Tennant Creek in the Northern Territory and Mt Isa in Queensland to connect the gas fields to customers in the Eastern Gas Market.

Construction started July, 2017 and is on schedule to be completed by August, 2018.

The majority of  procurement for the project will go through ICN.
