Drought a looming issue for resources sector

In a harbinger of what could be in store for the resources sector, a NSW miner says it could run out of water by February, after the state government introduced new restrictions in response to the savage drought.

The Australian is reporting Aeris Resources said it could run out of water for its Tritton mine in Western NSW if it was unable to tap a nearby pipeline as an alternative supply.

And Aurelia Metals told analysts it faced the potential loss of the secure water allocation needed to keep its Peak gold and base metals mine running early in 2020, as the impact of the drought spreads beyond agriculture and puts one of western NSW’s biggest sources of employment under threat.
