BHP Billiton’s $4.3b Pilbara South Flank project receives EPA approval

The Environmental Protection Authority has recommended BHP’s South Flank iron ore project be approved subject to a range of conditions regards water management,  a green house gas report and a cultural heritage management plan.

The project will involve associated infrastructure, overland conveyor, accommodation villages and construction and operation of a rail spur.

Situated 100km north-west of Newman the 80mtpa mine will replace production from Yandi which is expected to close by  the mid 2020’s.
