$20b Tennant Creek solar farm to be world’s biggest

The world’s largest solar farm proposed near Tennant Creek has been given major project status making it a fast tracked, priority project for the Northern Territory Government.

The NT News is reporting the $20 billion Sun Cable project has been forecast to generate 1000 jobs in Darwin and another 1000 in Adelaide during the construction phase and a further 300 on site solar farm jobs in the Barkly.

A Project Development Agreement (PDA) will now be negotiated between the NT Government and Sun Cable Pty Ltd. The PDA will provide the framework for Sun Cable and the Northern Territory Government to work together in progressing the ASPL through the required approvals processes. Sun Cable will be required to prepare an Environmental Impact Statement and a Territory Benefit Plan.

Sun Cable has set a time frame to start construction in 2023 with commercial operations starting in 2027.
